Centec and DASAN to Help Accelerate Adoption of Open Networking

May 16, 2017

By adopting open networking, organizations will not be limited by propriety systems. When it comes to introducing new products and services, this means they can launch them to market faster, as well as being able to scale to address demand. Vendors in IT are encouraging the adoption of open networking because it allows their customers to use anyone's technology when they need to upgrade or replace parts. The new partnership between Centec Networks and DASAN Network Solutions (News - Alert) is in part encouraging the adoption of open networking, along with trying to solve next generation network challenges by bringing their technologies together.

According to the memorandum of understanding (MOU) both companies signed, they will be collaborating on solutions addressing all hierarchical network ecosystem layers by combining Centec’s terabit Ethernet switching silicon and white box solutions with DASAN’s network access market expertise. They are hoping this will deliver comprehensive, flexible and cost-effective next generation network solutions as well as encouraging the adoption of open networking.

"This partnership will showcase the unique capabilities of Centec’s Ethernet switching silicon and create opportunities for us to serve new applications and broader markets. We are committed to working closely with DASAN on innovative network switching solutions that will help our customers address both current and future networking challenges," said James Sun, chief executive officer of Centec Networks.

Centec Networks improves the deployment of software defined networking (SDN) to empower carrier, enterprise and data center networks by developing switching silicon and white box solutions. The company simplifies the migration from traditional L2, L3 and MPLS/MPLS-TP architecture to SDN with open networking solutions.

"Centec is a key player in Ethernet switching silicon and especially well-known for innovative solutions based on new technologies. We’ve already defined several very attractive designs with Centec and believe this partnership will generate significant opportunities for both parties in Asia as well as the broader global marketplace," said Kevin Lee (News - Alert), vice president of DASAN Network Solutions

With this partnership, Centec will be bringing its high-speed Ethernet switching silicon technology to develop next-generation network switching solutions, including chips, equipment, network operating systems and applications. This collaboration and many like it, along with open initiatives want to solve the pressing challenges of global data traffic explosion that is growing at an extraordinary pace. They are trusting the flexibility, efficiency and cost saving capabilities of open networking will in great part stave off the deluge of data traffic.
